The Most Beautiful Garb I've Ever Seen In My Whole Life

I didn't take a picture of it.

I got all shy that day for some reason, and couldn't bear to be walking around sticking a camera in people's faces.  As a friend pointed out, they spent all that time getting dressed up, they must want to be noticed! Wouldn't it be a downer to go to all that effort and then not have everybody wanting to take your picture?

But I went all shy and didn't take many pictures of people directly.

I saw a lady wearing the most gorgeous dress I've ever seen in my entire life, and I would have asked her if I could take a picture, but she was sitting at a picnic table with her family and they were deep in conversation, and I stood there a couple minutes and they didn't notice me, so I walked off.

It was Accolade-shaped, but no upper-arm band, the sleeves weren't as long and it was BLUE.  It was just too pretty for words.

So I'm going to have to be poking around the internet looking for photo galleries hoping she appears in one, since she's now my elusive goal of costuming perfection.
Click that to get to the HUGE close-up version  :-)

Hi Janel,

I have been told that I am the one in the blue dress that you were looking for. I'm not sure if that's the case or not. I do have a collection of bliauts (the style of dress in the picture). There is a yahoo group you can join that covers this period of clothing. Here's the link:
I have a photo gallery of my costumes there. I do have a dress much like the one in the picture here that is made out of silver/lavendar silk. I have one in black silk with purple silk lining in the sleeves and I have a couple of blue linen ones.

I was not at the event, but if you are looking for a style similar to the accolade, you are probably talking about a Bliaut. The high court fashion of the 12th century. For more in depth discussions on the Bliaut, the best resourse I have found is the 12centgarb yahoo group. The archives are worth their weight in gold, and the people on the list are awesome!

Duchess Angharad, thank you so much! Yes, that must have been you!
I found some pictures of you on the An Tir wiki too, wearing something very similar to what I saw on June 4th. What an honor for you to take time to come over and answer me!
Were you wearing blue or lavendar that day? It may have been either, I only remember that it was such a lovely color :-)

Baroness Morrghan, thank you for the reply also! I read your blog, what a great sense of humor you have! Yet you've done so much in that fun SCA in which I've only just had my first amazed look round.
I love the "lemme 'splain" :-)

I've also got to thank that helpful person who forwarded my email around!
As a result, another lady contacted me by email and offered to help me draft a dress similar to this, which is incredibly kind of her towards a total stranger. What an amazing offer, I've got to find some way to take her up on it, as that's a chance not to be missed!
